Basingstoke is an unashamedly modern town, from the network of ring roads that help commuters and steer traffic away from the town centre, to the cool venues, excellent sports facilities and large shopping centre.
Businesses, cafes, eateries, galleries all have a modern edge, the area does have history and even a ‘living museum’ but it doesn’t tend to dwell on it’s past, instead it is embracing the future. Fast fibre-optic broadband is readily accessible, there are strong green initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and funky start-ups increasing employment opportunities. It really is a town that’s going places, making housing increasingly sought-after. Rainbow removals have been helping people relocate to and from the town and surrounding villages, with local experience and knowledge to make your move simple.
The town really does have it all, good restaurants, a cinema, theatre, live music venues and a huge selection of shops, from Festival Place shopping centre with easy parking and myriad of stores all under one roof, to some cool independent shops and delis. There are also more retail parks than you can shake a loyalty card at, ideal for any Basingstoke newbies looking to starting putting their stamp on their new home. While there are no major sports teams in the town, there are very good sporting facilities, clubs and gyms. Outside of town you’ll find riding centres, fisheries, golf courses and areas for simply enjoying the great outdoors. Milestones Living Museum is another fascinating place worth a visit.
Basingstoke has a large number of nurseries, primary and secondary schools which include academies. There are also several specialist schools tailored for pupils with a range of educational needs, from ages 4 to 18. For tertiary students the town has two colleges.
Getting around the town is easy, while some might occasionally poke fun at the roundabouts (granted, there are a lot), it does make driving easy and keeps passing traffic and large goods vehicles away from the town centre and housing areas. The passing M3 motorway offers easy access to the M25 or the A303 leads down to the South West. There are plenty of cycle paths and lanes for eco commuters and good bus services are handy for pupils looking to head across town to their preferred school. Trains to London can take as little as 45 minutes.
